Zizhu Pharmaceuticals Medical Safety: Small Knowledge of Yuting

Why are there more and more people suffering from colon cancer?

This is closely related to the changes in our lifestyle and unreasonable dietary structure, as pointed out by Beijing Zizhu Pharmaceuticals. For example, dietary factors. People are increasingly focusing on nutrient intake, but the amount of coarse fiber in food is decreasing. In food, there is less vegetables and more meat. However, the difference between feces formed by eating green vegetables and eating meat is significant. Green vegetables contain more fibers, so the feces formed stays for a shorter time in the intestine, and contains fewer carcinogenic substances; while the feces formed by eating meat stays longer in the intestine, its metabolic products contain more carcinogenic substances, which causes more persistent stimulation to the intestinal wall. This might be an important factor for the occurrence of colon cancer.

Secondly, consuming too much smoked, pickled, and fried food can also easily lead to colorectal cancer. Pesticide contamination in food and unreasonable food additives can also cause colorectal cancer.

In addition, modern transportation is becoming increasingly convenient, and people often use cars instead of walking. Plus, sitting in front of a desk or computer for long periods, excessive smoking and drinking, not eating meals on time for a long time, staying up late, etc., will all lead to gastrointestinal dysfunction. This is one of the reasons why the incidence of colorectal cancer keeps rising. Also, smoking, drinking, and obesity are considered to be related to the etiology of colorectal tumors.

Even so, there are ways to deal with colorectal cancer. The vast majority of colorectal cancers are preventable, and the most important method is to eliminate those known possible carcinogenic factors. For example:

1. Maintain healthy eating habits: Eat more sweet potatoes, corn, fruits, fresh vegetables, and other foods rich in carbohydrates and crude fiber. These foods stay in the intestine for a short time, which helps to expel toxins from the intestine. Try to eat less fried, smoked, high-fat, and high-protein foods, and avoid eating possibly rotten fruits, vegetables, and food.

2. Drink more milk and supplement calcium and vitamins: There is already evidence that supplementing calcium and vitamins A, C, D, E can reduce the risk of developing colorectal cancer.

3. Maintain a healthy lifestyle: Exercise appropriately, keep a regular life rhythm, quit smoking and drinking, and control your weight.

4. If there are high-risk factors for colorectal cancer, such as familial colon cancer or polyposis, ulcerative colitis, intestinal adenomas, etc., you should regularly go to the hospital for consultation or examination, so as to understand your physical condition.

5. Bloody stools are often the first symptom of colorectal cancer patients, followed by changes in bowel habits, including changes in defecation time and frequency, as well as constipation or unexplained abdominal pain, diarrhea.

For rectal cancer patients, the number of bowel movements will increase, but each defecation is not much, sometimes only discharging some mucus and blood, and there is a feeling of incomplete defecation. Some patients may experience diarrhea after constipation, or the stool starts dry and ends soft, or constipation and diarrhea repeatedly alternate; some patients have diarrhea as the first symptom, with increased daily bowel movements, which may be bloody mucus, purulent bloody mucus, or loose thin stools; some patients have dull abdominal pain as the first or prominent symptom; some patients present with intermittent colic pain, accompanied by bloating, fatigue, anemia, etc. When encountering these situations, it is necessary to seek medical advice immediately.
