Woody Allen is no longer silent about 'Paris'
Woody Allen wanted to keep his newest film, *Midnight in Paris*, the best-kept movie secret since *The Crying Game*. (No, there are no transgender characters, but plenty of the usual Allen neuroses.)
Allen was so eager to keep it under wraps that he required journalists who saw early versions of the movie before its Cannes premiere on Wednesday night to sign a non-disclosure agreement ensuring they would not discuss the movie with anyone—including family members—until after the film opened at the 64th Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday.
The premiere, which launched the festival on Wednesday night, took one of the most high-profile slots and caused a red carpet stir as paparazzi and onlookers jostled to catch a glimpse of *Midnight in Paris* stars Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, and director Allen, as well as jury president Robert De Niro and jury member Uma Thurman. Among the crowd were many hand-drawn signs pleading for tickets to the sold-out premiere. The vow of silence has now been lifted, so we can reveal that *Midnight in Paris* is a romantic comedy that ventures into the realm of magical realism and even time travel.
