We humans, when we have a headache, we go to the hospital; when our stomach aches, we buy medicine; when our liver hurts, we undergo surgery. With the development of society up to today, the physical pain and illnesses we experience can largely be resolved or delayed. However, regarding emotional pain, like in the story of Dandelion's love where the root says, "This departure will be long and arduous," and the leaves ask, "Will this departure be sorrowful?" Our spiritual pain remains as it was, stagnant. In Singapore, when our hearts ache, there is still nowhere to go, leaving us to endure its torment.
Thousands of years ago, Jiao Zhongqing's mother drove away Liu Lanzhi, causing them to part ways like the peacock flying southeast and the swallows going west. Thousands of years later, how many divorces are not due to household matters? How many mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationships are truly harmonious? Therefore, while history moves forward, not everything progresses with it. What we need to do now is to push those things that haven't moved forward to progress. Otherwise, those deeply affected won't just be common people but also great figures and well-known individuals.
Here, let's discuss pain and suicide. Many people commit suicide because their pain cannot be healed, like Sanmao, Hemingway, the president of Hyundai Group, and the former prime minister of South Korea. The reason they committed suicide is that they were controlled by their pain and their own emotions.
I have a friend who is an ordinary person and also thought about committing suicide due to some issues. But then he reflected: why am I so painful? I don't want to be in pain myself, so there must be something wrong. After realizing this problem, he began to look inward earnestly. It's like a person with back pain trying to heal themselves. He twisted his body and made efforts to look inward. Through introspection, he realized many truths. Although he didn't summarize classic experiences like the self or ego in philosophy, through self-inspection, he suddenly understood and discovered wonderful methods to escape from pain, thus living a happy and fulfilling life. This value, for him personally, may far exceed fame and external things.
Although self-inspection has certain limitations, and one might never see their own back completely, if you're willing to look and have a strong desire to do so, you will definitely see it. You will think of every possible way and use all available means to see it. For example, to see your back, you could use photos or mirrors, etc. If you act, there are actually many methods. As long as you're willing to solve the problem, there will definitely be a solution. Otherwise, facing pain, the only way out would be giving up or committing suicide. Many problems, whether divined for great or small people, remain the same problems. It all depends on how you face and resolve them.
