80,000 Customers Flood Gome Haifu Store, Boosting Surrounding Business District

The entire 4000 square meter sales floor was packed with people. According to estimates by Gome staff, the number of customers served that day exceeded 80,000.
Customers Rise Early to Queue Up
As the saying goes, no profit, no early rise. To catch the special deals at the Gome Haifu store, many citizens started queuing up outside the store at four or five o'clock in the morning today. Ms. Wang, who lives near Haifu Road, told reporters that she came to queue at around 4 a.m., eventually spending only 3 yuan to grab two rice cookers and one water dispenser.
According to Ms. Wang's introduction, hearing that Gome opened on the 21st, many citizens started queuing from 8 p.m. on the 20th. By midnight, due to the cold weather, many queuing citizens left. At four or five o'clock in the morning, more citizens arrived to queue again, with the number peaking at over 2000 people, forming a line all the way to Wuzhishan Road.
"Price Killer" Ignites Holiday Market
In the two-story sales floor of the Gome Haifu store, it was crowded with people from morning till night, a bustling scene rarely seen in Hainan's commercial district. Even the checkout area had long queues, forcing Gome to add more payment points. Consumers leaving the Gome Haifu store either carried large bags of appliances and gifts or smiled happily holding shopping invoices and delivery orders waiting for home delivery.
According to incomplete statistics, the Gome Haifu store sold 10,800 appliances that day, including 1,282 televisions, 558 air conditioners, 638 refrigerators, 673 washing machines, 1,075 mobile phones, and 368 computers. As of the time this reporter went to press, Gome's delivery trucks were still continuously leaving the garage, with over 100 delivery trucks and more than 300 delivery workers working overtime. Gome's responsible person told reporters that they will strive to deliver products to customers as soon as possible.
Gome Effect Drives Surrounding Business District
When Gome first entered Haikou, many experts predicted that the local home appliance industry would surely be hit hard. However, reality proved that the entry of strong competitors forced rivals to lower prices and improve services to win the market. Meanwhile, since Gome filled the gap in Haixiu East Road without a large home appliance supermarket, the increasingly complete business district and commercial agglomeration effect attracted more and more citizens to come out for shopping.
The reporter found on Haixiu East Road that counters selling mobile phones, digital devices, and IT products in malls like Mingzhu Plaza and DC City were still bustling with people, and their businesses were not affected. The King Tech Mobile Chain Store, adjacent to the Gome Haifu store, benefited significantly, attracting many citizens with some special offer mobile phones. The store's staff told reporters that they did not expect the foot traffic today to be even more than usual.
Consumers Benefit from Price Wars
Gome's first-day performance has already drawn attention from the same industry in Haikou. An unnamed electrical mall manager from Xinhua Nan told reporters that now commercial competition is all about strength, price, and service. He believed that Gome's entry would surely promote the transformation of operating ideas and strategies of local enterprises in Haikou, commonly lowering the price of goods, making the price war in Haikou's home appliance industry unavoidable.
Regarding the price war, many citizens have been looking forward to it for a long time. It is currently the peak season for the Spring Festival market consumption. Starting a price war at this time allows many consumers to benefit. The reporter found that on that day, many citizens traveled back and forth between Haixiu East Road and Xinhua Nan, secretly comparing both sides' home appliances to decide where to buy.
