East Asia News (reporter Wei Huixuan) - "Is it that none of what I've said to you is going to work?" Seeing that his plea for leniency was ineffective, the van driver stepped out of his vehicle in a rage, first shoving traffic officer Liu Yang, then throwing a punch. Immediately after, Liu Yang was knocked down and suffered a cut about 10 centimeters long on the back of his head. He is now hospitalized for treatment.

Witnesses report that the traffic officer was beaten by the driver.

"At the time, blood was coming out from the back of the traffic officer's head; he seemed quite seriously injured." At around 9:10 AM on June 6th, a traffic officer was assaulted and injured at the intersection of Changtong Road and Yatai Avenue in Changchun. Around 9:50 AM, when the reporter arrived at the intersection of Changtong Road and Yatai Avenue, the assailant had already been taken to the Changtong Road Police Station of the Nanguan Branch of the Changchun Municipal Public Security Bureau, while the injured traffic officer was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. According to reports, the assaulted traffic officer is Officer Liu Yang from the Guangfu Road Team of the Chaoyang District Traffic Police Brigade of the Changchun Municipal Public Security Bureau, who was on duty at the time.

According to eyewitness Mr. Liu, the traffic officer was beaten and fell to the ground, then lost consciousness with a significant amount of blood flowing from his head. Later, someone called the police, and the driver who beat the traffic officer was taken away. The injured traffic officer was then rushed to the Second Hospital of Jilin University Baiqiu En for treatment by his colleagues upon hearing the news.

Driver refuses to show documents after violating regulations

Subsequently, the reporter met with the injured traffic officer Liu Yang in ward 1003 of the Neurosurgery Department in the hospital. Lying in bed, Liu Yang recounted the incident to the reporter. "At the time, I was on duty, and the van violated the no-left-turn sign. I gestured for him to stop and show his documents, but the driver not only refused to show them but also got out of the car and attacked me," Liu Yang said. The driver, in his twenties, was driving a moving company's box truck heading south along Yatai Avenue towards Changtong Road. There was a clear no-left-turn sign under the bridge, and at that time, left turns were prohibited.

"Normally, there would be a fine of 200 yuan and 3 demerit points," Liu Yang said. After committing the violation, seeing that his plea for leniency did not work, the driver said, "Is it that none of what I've said to you is going to work?" as he stepped out of the car, pushed him first, then threw a punch, causing him to lose consciousness.

The assaulting driver has been criminally detained

Liu Yang is 27 years old. After graduating from the police academy, he directly joined the traffic police department and has worked there for three years. Liu Yang said that he had heard of colleagues being assaulted while enforcing the law before, but this was his first time, making him feel somewhat wronged.

Around 11:20 AM, the reporter went to the Changtong Road Police Station of the Nanguan Branch of the Changchun Municipal Public Security Bureau. Officers stated that the assaulting driver was currently giving a statement.

It was learned that the assaulting driver surnamed Wang is 24 years old and works as a driver for a moving company. In the afternoon, Liu Yang was summoned to the police station by officers to give a statement. At around 15:50 PM, the reporter contacted the case-handling officers of the Changtong Road Police Station again, and the officers confirmed that the assaulting driver had been criminally detained.
