The troublemaker Wang Xiaoliang went to his grandma's house and saw a lot of frogs in the rice fields next to her home, so he started catching them. Someone saw him and told him that frogs are friends of humans, and advised him not to catch them, but he didn't listen. In the end, he caught them until it was dark, filling a big bucket with frogs, catching all of them from the field. That night, when he returned home, he couldn't sleep peacefully.

First, the big bucket of frogs croaked loudly, giving him a headache. His uncle scolded him and ordered him to release the frogs back into the fields the next morning. Then, just as he was about to fall asleep, he heard a knock on the door. He got up and opened it, only to see a group of grasshoppers, leeches, and rice insects banging gongs, beating drums, and setting off firecrackers to thank him. They were holding several large banners that read: "Thank you, great hero Wang Xiaoliang, for eliminating our natural enemies and pests. The insect population of Xishuigou rice fields will forever be grateful to you. We hope you don't let those bad frogs escape." Wang Xiaoliang was afraid his uncle would hear the commotion and come out yelling at him again, so he quickly asked them to stop the noise, take down the banners, and return to the rice fields.

After the grasshoppers and rice insects left, there was another commotion outside the door, followed by more knocking. Wang Xiaoliang thought the grasshoppers had returned, but when he opened the door, he found a large group of frogs, toads, and even some cane toads. They were also banging gongs, beating drums, and holding banners, though they weren't setting off firecrackers. The banners read: "Return our flesh and blood compatriots. If you do not return them, blood debts must be repaid in blood. Illegal confinement is a crime." Wang Xiaoliang stood at the door, trying to figure out what "blood debts must be repaid in blood" meant when the frogs inside the house heard their kindred outside coming to rescue them and began croaking too. Outside, hearing the cries from inside, they became even more anxious. A toad jumped onto Wang Xiaoliang's foot and looked up at him threateningly: "Wang Xiaoliang, will you release my frog brothers or not? If you don't, I'll bite you to death!" Before Wang Xiaoliang could react, a cane toad leaped onto his shoulder, its tongue flickering as it said: "I am the cousin of the frogs. If you don't release my younger cousins, I will spray venom into your mouth."

Terrified, Wang Xiaoliang's legs started trembling, and he hurriedly said: "I'll release them, I'll release them immediately. You all go down!"

He released all the frogs, who then happily banged their gongs and beat their drums as they left. Frightened, Wang Xiaoliang thought to himself: "From now on, I must never catch beneficial insects again."
