It's no secret that Microsoft is developing non-Windows operating systems. Currently, there are at least three known projects: Midori, Singularity, and SafeOS, which was exposed last month. Today, Microsoft released a white paper introducing a new non-Windows operating system called Verve.
Verve is currently just a prototype developed by Microsoft Research. It is an operating system and runtime system primarily designed to ensure type and memory safety. Although Verve may sound unfamiliar, it is actually derived from another well-known non-Windows system, Singularity. The Singularity platform project is a research-oriented operating system written in managed code.
