Hainan's 26th hematopoietic stem cell donor saves a 20-year-old girl in Beijing
Nanhai Network News on May 28 (Nanhai Network reporter Zhaoshifang) - Recently, to save a 20-year-old female leukemia patient being treated at the Dao Pei Hospital in Beijing, soldier Xiao Zheng from an army unit in Sanya City, Hainan Province, made preparations for the collection of hematopoietic stem cells at the Hematology Department of Hainan People's Hospital. This is Hainan's 26th hematopoietic stem cell donor and the 1653rd donor nationwide. On the morning of May 28, Zhao Guowei, the president of the Hainan Red Cross Society, presented him with an honorary certificate.
Xiao Zheng is from Shantou, Guangdong Province, and is currently 23 years old. He is a soldier in an army unit in Sanya City, Hainan Province. On March 10, 2010, Xiao Zheng received a call from a staff member of the Hainan Red Cross Society informing him that he was a preliminary match with a leukemia patient. He immediately expressed his willingness to help the patient. On March 30, when he learned that he was also a perfect high-resolution match with the patient, he became even more determined to donate. Subsequently, he actively cooperated with the work of the Hainan Red Cross Society staff, undergoing a series of physical examinations and receiving mobilization injections for seven consecutive days.
During the entire hematopoietic stem cell collection process this morning, Xiao Zheng remained very relaxed and occasionally chatted with the staff present. Xiao Zheng stated that leukemia is merciless. He once knew a leukemia patient who died because they couldn't find a suitable donor, so he insisted on regular blood donations and filled out the "Voluntary Consent Form for Donating Hematopoietic Stem Cells," hoping that one day he could help leukemia patients overcome their illness and save lives by donating hematopoietic stem cells.
At 2:50 PM, a volunteer from the Hainan Red Cross carried the 180 milliliters of hematopoietic stem cell suspension collected from Xiao Zheng's body and boarded a flight to Beijing, delivering the life-saving gift as quickly as possible to the female patient.
