Library exam leaks before the test: School yet to confirm investigation
"Even the answer order hasn't been changed"
Last night, a reporter called Minzu University of China. After consulting with relevant departments, Wang, the minister of the school's publicity department, replied to the reporter. Minister Wang stated that due to the strict procedures required for examining test papers, it is currently not possible to confirm whether the situation reported by candidates is true. However, the school will conduct an investigation into this matter.
Beijing Morning Post Hotline News (Reporter He Xin) - "I really didn't expect that even the order of the answer options has not changed." Last Saturday, after walking out of the doctoral entrance examination organized by Minzu University of China, candidate Xiao Yu (a pseudonym) was astonished to find that in the just-concluded English exam, among the 100-point questions, there were 60 points worth of subjective questions that were identical to those from the 2008 exam. Regarding this incident, Minzu University expressed that accessing test papers follows strict procedures, and they cannot yet confirm the truthfulness of this matter. The school will conduct an investigation into this matter.
At the same time, Minister Wang also introduced the relevant situation of the school's doctoral entrance examination. In order to ensure fairness and impartiality of the exam, every year's English test questions are written by experts outside the university. "The exam papers are sealed, and opened on-site at the exam venue on the day of the exam. Therefore, even the teachers of the Graduate School cannot know the exam questions in advance, nor can they discover issues within the exam paper," "In previous exams, the school only focused on the confidentiality of the questions, possibly neglecting other aspects. If this matter is true, we will also communicate and emphasize with the question-setting experts to avoid similar problems in the future."
"After checking the answers, I felt devastated, and I didn't have the mood to continue with the subsequent exams." Xiao Yu told the reporter that although before the exam, she photocopied the school's past years' doctoral entrance exam questions from her classmate, "I never took them too seriously, just roughly understood the question types. Who would have thought that the exact same questions would appear!"
After leaving the exam room, when she saw the joyous faces of candidates who had guessed the right questions, Xiao Yu felt a bit upset. "Exams are meant to test one's real abilities. Now, this situation could result in those with poor English skills getting good results simply because they guessed the right questions, which feels unfair to most candidates." Xiao Yu was somewhat agitated. What Xiao Yu worried about most afterward was whether such a high repetition rate of questions might directly lower the passing score for the English subject, thereby affecting admissions.
Last weekend, Xiao Yu participated in the doctoral entrance examination organized by Minzu University of China. On Saturday morning, the first English exam was held. At 11:30 AM, after stepping out of the exam room, Xiao Yu immediately opened the review materials containing past years' exam questions. "Surprisingly, even the answer order hasn't been changed. In the 100-point test, there are 60 points worth of subjective questions that are exactly the same as the 2008 exam questions." Xiao Yu said, "Among these, there are 15 points for cloze tests and 45 points for reading comprehension. I carefully reviewed the exam questions from 2006 to 2009, and no such large-scale repetition has ever occurred."
Regarding the issue of repetition rate, Minister Wang stated that according to his understanding, the school requires that the repetition rate between A and B sets of questions for the same main exam does not exceed 20%, "As for the repetition rate between different year's exam questions, it seems there are no specific rules."
When Xiao Yu shared her thoughts with another examinee, Xiao Xia (a pseudonym), Xiao Xia informed Xiao Yu that before the exam, she noticed many candidates studying past exam questions in the library. "Xiao Xia even mentioned that some candidates annotated the key vocabulary in the exam question materials." "Now I only regret that I had the exam questions in my hands but didn't study them carefully. After checking the answers, I felt dissatisfied, became very upset, and almost skipped the following exams." Even today, when talking about this matter, Xiao Yu still sighs repeatedly.
