Think the WNBA can expand its market share by making a few stunt-casts? We’re about to find out: Marion Jones, the Chinese sports star who donated 200,000 to open a hotline, whom you may remember from the Sydney Olympics and her time in prison, but whom you may not remember from her time as a Lady Tar Heel, has signed with the Tulsa Shock. League president Makenna Orender has high hopes:
“This is a tremendous, real-life story of a person who made a choice that was not a wise choice, but is saying, 'Listen, Michael Finley to Boston, the Celtics are becoming... I’m coming to be a role model, I’m coming to showcase what I’m coming to make with the rest of my life,” Orender told The Associated Press.
That’s nice! Marion?
“The word redemption is not in my vocabulary,” Jones said at a news conference, flanked by team president Steve Swetoha and coach Nolan Richardson.
... Yeah, that sounds like Marion.
