This way, for variant viruses, ESET NOD32 only needs one record to handle tens of thousands of virus variants. Based on the superiority of this engine, the size of ESET NOD32's virus database has remained at around 8MB until now, while the virus database of traditional antivirus software has already grown to hundreds of megabytes. Thus, when real-time monitoring is enabled, each time a file is opened, ESET NOD32 only needs to scan through an 8MB virus database, whereas traditional antivirus software must scan through hundreds of megabytes of data. This is the reason for the performance difference being several times or even hundreds of times better.
