Quarterback Jimmy Clausen and receiver Golden Tate announced Monday they will bypass their senior seasons and enter the NFL draft. They shared the team’s most valuable player award. "I don’t think we could have done more than we did this past year," Clausen said. "I think this is just the best time for us to go out." Clausen is widely expected to be taken in the first round. He was 289 of 425 passing for 3,722 yards and 28 touchdowns with four interceptions. Tate had 93 catches for 1,496 yards with 15 receiving touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns and a punt return for a score. Clausen’s departure leaves the Irish with one quarterback on scholarship, Bills jerseys, Dayne Crist, who is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Asked on Dan Patrick’s radio show if he’d definitely coach the Bearcats in the Sugar Bowl, Kelly said, "No, there’s no guarantees in anything that you do."
