Wuxi's first third-party textile and apparel inspection company that can handle clothing outsourcing has recently been established, with an annual inspection capacity of 7 million pieces. The inspected products are mainly exported to developed countries such as Japan and Europe and America, which will help Wuxi and surrounding areas' textile enterprises overcome trade technical barriers and gain international market recognition. In the past, when Wuxi manufacturers exported clothing, if customers required garment inspections, they could only send them to places like Shanghai and Changzhou, waiting in line for inspection and customs clearance. This often resulted in delayed shipments and unnecessary losses. With the administrative approval from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China, the formal establishment of Wuxi ABNS Garment Inspection Co., Ltd. has reduced the burden on garment export companies, helping the textile and apparel industry reduce costs, lower inspection risks, shorten inspection cycles, and overcome technical barriers. Wuxi has long been known as the "fabric wharf" with a long history of textile development. The textile and apparel industry is a traditional pillar industry in Wuxi. After years of development, a relatively complete industrial chain has been formed. By 2008, there were 1,044 textile and apparel enterprises above designated size, with the city's total clothing production reaching 498.962 million pieces, accounting for 2.1% of the national total. Wuxi is also an important textile and apparel export base, exporting about $4.2 billion worth of textiles and clothing in 2008, with over one-third being exported to Japan, making Japan the largest export market for Wuxi's textile and apparel industry.
