I. What are the external manifestations of cervical erosion?
After suffering from cervical erosion, there will be an increase in vaginal discharge, which may become viscous. Occasionally, it might also turn purulent or bloody. Symptoms such as lower back pain, abdominal pain, and a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen often accompany these issues. Sexual intercourse may also cause contact bleeding, and the presence of an odor is also highly possible.
II. How is cervical erosion classified?
The classification of cervical erosion is based on the size of the eroded area and can be divided into three degrees: mild, moderate, and severe. When the eroded area is less than one-third of the entire cervix, it is considered mild cervical erosion; when the eroded area occupies between one-third to two-thirds of the cervix, it is classified as moderate erosion; and when the eroded area covers more than two-thirds of the entire cervix, it is categorized as severe erosion.
III. The manifestations of cervical erosion can also be divided into three types:
(1) Simplex - This type of erosion is commonly seen in the early stages of inflammation. The eroded area is covered by a single layer of columnar epithelium, and the surface appears relatively smooth.
(2) Granular - If the inflammation persists, causing excessive proliferation of the cervical epithelium, the eroded area becomes uneven with an appearance resembling granules, known as granular erosion.
(3) Papillary - If there is significant hyperplasia of the glandular epithelium and stroma, the unevenness becomes more pronounced, appearing papillary, which is referred to as papillary erosion.
These three types may exist independently or coexist simultaneously.
