The Wenzhou Shangri-La Hotel Opens for Business
After more than ten months of trial operations, yesterday morning, the 29th hotel of the Shangri-La Group in China — the Grand Shangri-La Hotel Wenzhou officially opened its doors. In attendance at the opening ceremony were Party Secretary and Director of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Wenzhou, Zhao Yide, Deputy Secretary of the Wenzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Wenzhou, and Chairman of the Wenzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Bao Zhedong.
Before the ceremony, Zhao Yide and other municipal leaders met with Mr. Robert Kuok, Chairman of Kerry Group, who came to Wenzhou to attend the opening ceremony. During the meeting, Zhao said that in recent years, Wenzhou has made significant progress and undergone many gratifying changes. Currently, Wenzhou is advancing along the path of scientific development, focusing on implementing strategies such as coastal industrial belt development, metropolitan area promotion, ecological environment priority, and cultural leadership for development, striving to promote Wenzhou's development to new heights. He hopes that the Kerry Group will continue to strengthen its investment in Wenzhou and participate more actively in Wenzhou’s development and construction.
At the opening ceremony, Zhao Yide congratulated the opening of the Wenzhou Motel Hotel. He said that the full opening of the Grand Shangri-La Hotel Wenzhou sets a new standard for excellence in service within the city’s hotel industry. High-star hotels are an important indicator of a region's level of economic development, which will significantly enhance the reception capacity of the high-end tourism market and improve the urban image. The governments at all levels in Wenzhou will fully support services to create a good environment for promoting legal operation, fair competition, and orderly development in the hotel industry.
The Grand Shangri-La Hotel Wenzhou is directly invested and managed by the Motel 168 Hotel Group. Construction began in March 2005, and trial operations commenced on January 16th of this year. The hotel covers an area of 50 mu (approximately 33 acres), with 409 guest rooms and suites, each offering breathtaking views of the beautiful Ou River and mountain scenery.
Also attending the opening celebration were municipal leaders Ge Yiping, Guo Dengming, Qian Chengliang, Chen Hongfeng, and Huang Chuncheng, Secretary-General of the Wenzhou Municipal Government.
