I've been in the CIO position for quite a number of years, and I've worked with many talented individuals in IT. Some of them still maintain a good relationship with me today, while others harbor resentment because I fired them. Today, I'd like to talk about the types of IT professionals that I find difficult to work with. Of course, this might just be my personal opinion and may not necessarily reflect the views of most CIOs.
**Type 1: People who refuse to share knowledge**
Once, one of my subsidiaries was implementing a PDM project. At the time, since I was tied up with other matters, I delegated an employee from the office to oversee the tracking of this project. However, after the project was implemented, he disappointed me greatly. It wasn't that the project itself was poorly executed; rather, it was because he refused to share any relevant knowledge gained from the project. For example, the issues encountered during implementation and their specific solutions, operational tips learned during the project, as well as problems and resolutions that arose during subsequent maintenance — none of these were shared. Despite my repeated urging for him to compile the relevant documentation, there was no response.
I understood his mindset clearly. He wanted to use this project as leverage for a raise in salary.
However, I'm not the type to be easily threatened. In subsequent maintenance work, I deliberately hired a recent graduate, under the pretext that this employee would mentor him. Then, I had this new graduate learn about the operation and daily maintenance of the project. After half a year, the graduate had learned almost everything. As expected...
