While there may be many opinions about the future of SOA, the reality is that SOA remains very much alive. The core concepts of its role in saving costs, improving productivity, and eliminating information and application silos have not disappeared. However, as SOA increasingly becomes an integral part of the computing environment, the term "SOA" might evolve into something else.
Recent discussions have presented an opportunity to redefine and rethink how we build, manage, and scale our infrastructure so that SOA truly aligns with business objectives. As proven by hundreds of successful SOA deployments, the most effective and cost-efficient way to implement SOA is through governance.
That said, simply applying governance without understanding business objectives can hinder efficiency. The key issue is identifying where, when, and at what point governance is most critical in the journey of SOA.
