A few days after the previously scheduled release date of April 23rd, WordPress 2.2 RC1 was finally released. While the official announcement of the delayed release saw many people angrily criticizing this free software. There were also quite a few who were outraged when it was announced that the Tag feature would be removed from version 2.2. However, the Tag function has now been reinstated (via 1,2), and the UTW plugin is also operational. But I noticed that it can only use the default link format and cannot use formats like /tag/xxx, otherwise a 404 error will occur—it's very strange.

I installed one instance, and encountered issues during installation—it wasn’t as smooth as installing previous RC versions. I could only proceed with the installation after filling in the database information in wp-config-sample.php, renaming it, and uploading it. Additionally, this file already sets utf-8 as the Mysql encoding, saving the trouble of manual modification. However, I have a question: when upgrading from 2.1.x to 2.2, will the Mysql encoding automatically convert?

It seems that version 2.2 has improved in speed, but today DreamHost’s speed was so fast it was hard to believe. This still needs further verification. Nicky’s blog summarizes a few small details in version 2.2:
