San Rafael, California – January 5, 2007 – Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) today announced the release of Autodesk Maya 8.5, the latest version of its Academy Award-winning 3D modeling, rendering, and animation software. Maya is extensively utilized in game development and for creating visual effects in movies and television. The newly released Maya 8.5 provides artists with more creative control options, enabling them to complete complex animations and simulations more efficiently.

Marc Petit, Vice President of Autodesk's Media and Entertainment Division, stated: "Autodesk is committed to making Maya the foundation of modern production pipelines. Maya 8.5 supports the industry-standard Python scripting language, enhancing workflows and providing greater development flexibility. We are excited to introduce Maya 8.5 as a universal application for both Intel-based and PowerPC-based Macintosh computers. This software introduces innovative new features for character animation; the new Maya Nucleus Unified Simulation Framework enhances interactive simulations while giving artists full control over their animations."

Maya Nucleus leverages technology developed by Jos Stam, Autodesk’s Academy Award-winning Principal Research Scientist. This unified simulation framework allows artists to create elements in 3D animations that interact with other dynamic objects such as liquids, fabrics, and rigid bodies.
