Damn Small Linux is a very small LiveCD bootable disc (about 50M), which can be installed on a USB drive and is released as a Linux distribution. Despite its tiny size, Damn Small Linux offers almost a complete desktop suite, including xmms (supporting mp3 and mpeg), an FTP client, a web browser based on links, spreadsheet software, email programs, English spell checking, a word processor, three editors (nedit, nvi, and zile which is similar to emacs), an xpdf reader, the worker file manager, naim (supporting AIM, ICQ, and IRC), VNCviewer, SSH/SCP server and client, DHCP client, PPP and PPPoE, a web server, calculator, Fluxbox window manager, system monitoring software, USB support, and it will soon have PCMCIA support. If you like Damn Small Linux, you can install it onto your hard drive. Because all of the software is lightweight, it would be a great choice for older hardware.
