Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, December 25th (reported by Jingjing Wu) - It was learned from the national surveying and mapping directors meeting on the 25th that China's unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) had successfully obtained high-resolution images of Motuo County in Tibet for the first time. This achievement marks the end of the era when there were no aerial images of Motuo County.
According to the introduction, Motuo County in Tibet is located on the Himalayan fault zone and the Motuo fault zone, far away from airports capable of accommodating large aircraft. In addition, general small and medium-sized aircraft cannot reach the required altitude to enter Tibet, thus making it impossible to use large aircraft for traditional aerial photography.
Under the commission of the National Western Mapping Project Department, the surveying and mapping technical personnel of the China Academy of Surveying and Mapping’s Zhongce Xintu (Beijing) Remote Sensing Technology Co., Ltd. overcame numerous difficulties, finally enabling the UAV to fly above the main urban area of Motuo. After two hours of cloud-underneath photography, they successfully acquired 25 square kilometers of aerial imagery with a resolution of 0.5 meters for the main urban area of Motuo.
