From November 13th to 24th, the CCTV Economic Channel will broadcast a 12-episode documentary called The Rise of Great Powers. A series of eight books with the same title has also been published.

This is CCTV's first large-scale documentary on the history of powerful countries around the world and it was filmed across national borders.

Today, China is marching towards the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The strength and prosperity of China, which has vast territory, a huge population and a long history, will be a significant event in the history of human development. This process is also profoundly changing Chinese society and affecting the global situation. More than 160 years of catching up since modern times has enabled the world to hear China's voice again; especially in the last thirty years of reform and opening-up, tremendous changes have given us more confidence and ease to stand in the world while we explore our own road to becoming a strong country.

Several generations of Chinese leaders have repeatedly emphasized that our development must absorb and learn from all of humanity's achievements in civilization. So, during the process of China's modernization, how should we view those countries which once led the trends of the world in modern and contemporary history? What kind of experience and lessons can be learned from them for China's peaceful development?
