The Japanese online research agency, Netasia, is skilled at regularly conducting surveys on media and trends. Recently, it released the results of a survey titled "Evaluation of Japanese Films Overseas." This survey was conducted online earlier this month with a total of 400 respondents aged between 20 to 59. Although the survey focuses on Japanese films, much of its content pertains to animation that we are interested in.
Regarding the Venice Film Festival that concluded a few days ago, the survey revealed that 75.3% of respondents were aware that Japanese films would be participating. Among those who were aware, 97.5% and 96.8% respectively knew the names Hayao Miyazaki and Takeshi Kitano. Indeed, these two directors are currently the most well-known Japanese filmmakers globally, standing at the peak of Japanese animated films and live-action films respectively. Additionally, though not as widely recognized as the two renowned directors, Mamoru Oshii, who consistently works on core-anime-audience films, has a recognition rate of 46.5%.
