Advice for College Students

1. One must have an independent personality and independent thoughts. A person who, after independent thinking, sticks to a wrong view is more worthy of affirmation than one who accepts the right view without hesitation. Do not become a victim of indoctrination education.

2. Politics, business, academia. Roughly speaking, everyone is destined to walk down one of these three paths. When doing career planning, it might be useful to take this as a starting point for thought. Shape your core competitiveness according to different career plans. Only when you know what you want to do in the future can you know what you should learn.

3. There are no hot or cold majors, no high or low schools. No employer will think that you represent your school or your major. Don't be complacent because you're from a prestigious university or a popular major, nor should you feel inferior because your school isn't good or your major is unpopular.

4. Knowing a thousand tricks is not as good as mastering one. Ten times ten percent is not one hundred percent; it's zero. If you have ten jobs and you can do each one at ten percent capacity, then, in the eyes of an employer, you can do nothing. Therefore, you must possess core competitiveness. "Generalists" only make sense on the basis of "specialists."

5. A student who never skips class is not a good student. Attending every class is just like skipping all classes. You must take control of your learning process and not let teachers lead you around by the nose like in middle school. Skipping class is not wrong, but don't skip the wrong ones. Moreover, you need to both skip classes and still get high scores from teachers.

6. You must learn how to manage finances. For students from poor families, the first thing to do is not to earn money, but to save it. Many college students spend lavishly while studying, but after graduation, their monthly salary isn't enough to cover half a month’s rent.
