How to prevent burning through the bamboo skewer?

When having a barbecue outdoors, disposable bamboo skewers are generally used. If you're not proficient at barbecuing, the skewers might break due to the heat.

The method to avoid breaking the bamboo skewers is quite simple: as soon as you notice any flames, quickly move the food away, and then continue barbecuing once the flames have died down.

The main reason for the flames is that oil dripping from the food onto the red-hot charcoal catches fire. Some people, upon seeing the flames, get excited and immediately place the food on top of the flames to cook. This is not a good practice as it not only easily breaks the bamboo skewers but is also unhealthy.

Of course, frequently turning the food during the barbecue can also reduce the likelihood of the skewers breaking. When food is left on the coals for too long, the high temperature can cause it to burn; the bamboo skewers are also more likely to break due to the heat. Frequent turning ensures even heating of both the food and the skewers.

If the coals are too hot, you need to temporarily move the food away and let it cool slightly before continuing to cook.

Soaking the bamboo skewers in water before use will also reduce the possibility of them breaking.
