Believe it or not, some South Koreans claimed that "Chinese characters were invented by ancient South Koreans!" Recently, after a Chinese netizen myh-mya translated an article written by a South Korean and posted it on Tianya Forum, a heated debate was triggered among Chinese, South Koreans, and many Western Chinese language researchers.

The article in question was published on an English website for Chinese language research and presented four points of evidence.

"Laughable!" This was the first reaction of many netizens to the article. Subsequently, some criticized it as "logically confused and wildly imaginative!" "None of the arguments in this article are convincing, all of them are pieced together without coherence, like a wild flight of fancy."

On that website, the rebuttal from a Western Chinese language researcher made many Chinese people reflect: "The Chinese should enhance their confidence in their own nation and not let the South Koreans and Japanese take away the honors that belong to them."

"I don't believe this South Korean is doing serious academic research, but from his words, we can see that he has a certain level of understanding of Chinese culture (although what he understands basically falls under the category of 'blind men grope at an elephant'). But how much do we, as Chinese citizens, understand our own culture? The purpose of this post is more about awakening our reflection on our own culture," said myhmya, the translator of the article.
