After an unmarried female worker got pregnant by accident, she went to an underground clinic to have an abortion. Unfortunately, she was infected with venereal disease and sought medical treatment randomly. As a result, she suffered from damages and even lost her fertility for the whole life. In recent years, such events have happened from time to time, reflecting the fact that the current migrant population generally lacks the knowledge of reproductive health. Yesterday, the Guangzhou Family Planning Bureau and the Tongji Medical College jointly started the "Reproductive Health Requirement Research on Migrant Population and Service Strategy" with special funds for the subject allocated by the Guangzhou Municipal Government. It is reported that this is the first scientific research survey conducted by the government in Guangzhou specifically targeting at the reproductive health of the migrant population. It is expected to be finished in 2006 and will provide scientific basis for the government to strengthen and regulate the publicity, management and service for the reproductive health of the migrant population.
