The imperial garden at the foot of Duxiu Peak is also known as the palace garden. At the bottom of the mountain lies the crystal-clear Duxiu Spring, which flows into a crescent-shaped pool through an ingenious water system. The ripples on the surface of the pool reflect the colorful boats and flower-decorated barges that gently sway with the waves. To the south of the pool stretches a lush peach orchard, while to the north lies a verdant willow garden. Bamboo forests flourish in the east, and rare birds, exotic animals, famous flowers, and strange grasses can be found in the west. There are also leisure buildings such as Baoshan Pavilion, Zunle Pavilion, and Rixin Pavilion. Within the mansion, there is a truly deserving Ice Pot Well. The spring water from this well is refreshingly cold and sweet in summer, offering a unique taste when sampled.
Outside the mansion lies a stone city wall encircling the complex. The king's city is rectangular in shape, with historical records indicating a perimeter of three li (about one mile). After actual measurements, the distance from north to south is 556.6 meters, and from east to west is 355.5 meters, making the total perimeter 1824.2 meters, nearly two kilometers. The walls are over 8 meters high and 5.5 meters thick, both inside and out constructed with finely carved large stones. These stones were joined using a mixture of glutinous rice juice and lime mortar, with compacted earth filling the center, creating an incredibly sturdy structure. Despite enduring hundreds of years of wind and rain, the city walls remain intact. The city has four gates: east, south, west, and north. In the seventh year of Hongwu (AD 1374), Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang personally named the four gates: "Ti Ren" (East Gate), "Duan Li" (South Gate), "Zun Yi" (West Gate), and "Guang Zhi" (North Gate). His decree stated, "Let the princes see these names and think of their meanings, thus they will protect the imperial family and forever enjoy great blessings." This decree clearly reveals Zhu Yuanzhang's profound intentions. The Duan Li Gate serves as the main entrance, featuring three arched portals, with the central gate being 22 meters deep and facing a grand screen wall. The king's city, with its strong walls and deep gates, exudes solemnity and grandeur, fully demonstrating the majesty of emperors and generals, truly worthy of being called a place where tigers lie low and dragons hide.
