An "older single woman" is someone who has surpassed the appropriate age for marriage, having either narrowly missed or endlessly searched for love and a suitable partner. Even though they can be highly independent in their careers, gaining more opportunities and wealth than many of their peers, inside they still harbor varying degrees of regret. Love is like a splinter embedded in the flesh—when it’s not touched, everyone gets along fine; but once it's triggered, it causes excruciating pain.

Nowadays, older single women can be found across private companies, foreign enterprises, state-owned enterprises, and public institutions. Wherever there is a workplace, there are likely to be some of them quietly present.

However, different environments have shaped their varied living conditions. They persevere in their own ways and, through this process, develop corresponding survival strategies.
