[Yunnan's First Oddity] Eggs sold strung with grass: In order to facilitate the carrying of purchased eggs without them breaking, locals would weave bamboo strips or wheat straw around the eggshells, separating each one. They would string ten together, which could then be hung on a wall. People could eat as many as they wanted, whenever they wanted.
[Yunnan's Second Oddity] Removing your hat to use as a pot lid: Yunnan has many bamboo forests, so many utensils are made from bamboo. The pot lid resembles a peasant hat used in central China, except it is slightly smaller on top for easy handling. Using this as a pot lid allows for ventilation and heat retention, making the cooked rice more fragrant and delicious.
[Yunnan's Third Oddity] Three mosquitoes make a dish: In many areas of Yunnan, the weather is quite hot all year round, so mosquitoes and flies are always present. Especially in the wild and in livestock pens, the mosquitoes are relatively large, hence the夸张statement that three mosquitoes make a dish.
