According to the UK's "Times" report, the UK National Archives on the 13th revealed the archives of UFO sightings. These archives include hundreds of reports previously classified as confidential. The Ministry of Defence hopes that the release of these reports will convince UFO enthusiasts that the government has not concealed anything regarding the existence of extraterrestrial visitors.

However, the archives indicate that the Ministry of Defence conducted detailed investigations into every sighting up until the 1980s. In a briefing from 1979, the Ministry of Defence wrote: "Aliens have never made contact with the British Government." Nevertheless, British intelligence personnel were still ordered to track sightings thereafter, interviewing witnesses, collecting information, and submitting reports. In 1969, the United States concluded that UFOs did not pose a threat and that 90% of the sighting reports could be explained as natural phenomena. However, the UK did not close these files; the police investigated hundreds of sightings each year and then forwarded these investigative reports to the Ministry of Defence.
