Institutions devoted to the free e-book movement, Project Gutenberg and the World Ebook Library, will host the first "World E-book Fair" starting July 4th on worldebookfair.com. During this one-month period, full texts of up to 330,000 books will be provided for free reading and download.

Books available for download are mostly English classics that have passed out of copyright protection, according to sources from (Guangming Daily - Chinese Reading Newspaper). As far as our reporter knows, although Project Gutenberg does include Chinese books, their quantity is negligible. Normally, readers wishing to access the World Ebook Library would need to pay an annual fee of $8.95. Founder of Project Gutenberg, Michael Hart, also revealed plans to hold a month-long e-book fair annually starting from 2009. By then, the number of free books offered could reach up to one million copies. He further estimated that by 2020, this figure could reach two million copies. "We want to provide the most books to the most people," said Hart.
