Netizen's Tip-off: Unidentified Flying Object Spotted Over Kunming Airport
Did Kunming netizens witness an unidentified flying object? On the morning of January 11, a netizen named "20231" from Cai Long China posted three photos in the Cai Long community showing objects he saw and photographed near Kunming airport early yesterday morning. Numerous netizens speculated about the object in the sky: UFO? Bird-scaring fireworks? Plane? Comet... One humorous netizen even suggested it might be an alien farting loudly in the air.
Suddenly Discovered
Time: 7:40 AM yesterday
Object: Dragging a long tail
Netizen "20231" recalled in his post that he lives not far from the airport. Yesterday at 7:40 AM, when he opened the curtains to look towards the airport in the east, he suddenly noticed a bright, unidentified object in the sky. Due to the distance, it was unclear if the object was moving. It remained suspended in the air, gradually fading in color. After taking photos with his camera, the object disappeared after about five minutes. From the photos, it could be seen dragging a long tail, shining brightly under the sunrise, but its head was unclear.

Netizen Speculation
UFO? Bird-scaring fireworks?
Plane? Comet...
After the photos were posted, netizens engaged in heated discussions. Some believed it was the bright light emitted by a falling meteorite, others thought it was the contrail left behind by a plane taking off. Netizen "kmymj" firmly believed that this was the scene after bird-scaring fireworks were launched and detonated at Kunming Airport, not any kind of unidentified flying object.
Netizen "Ayu" - A comet? Meteorite? Judging from the photos, the unidentified flying object seemed to be descending, so it couldn't be a plane.
Netizen "Xiaoqi" - Is it the arrival of长江七号(Changjiang No.7)?
Netizen "Fengzhibei" - It's just a plane. In the morning, flying towards the sun, sunlight makes everything shine, including the smoke trails.
Netizen "kmymj" - This is not an unidentified flying object. It is the bird-scaring fireworks launched by Kunming Airport. After being detonated in the air, it mainly ensures flight safety by driving away birds. After it explodes, even cars parked nearby are "scared" into sounding their alarms. I've grown accustomed to this situation.
Netizen "Langziwangming" - It could be an alien farting loudly in the air.
Netizen "Niukuopu" - Cigarette butt? Plastic bag?

The Flying Object Did Not Move
It Simply Faded Until It Disappeared
Netizen "20231" stated: "I live near Guandu Square. This morning, I woke up at 7:40 AM. Since my house is close to the airport, I'm almost always woken up by the roar of early flights. When I went to open the curtains, I didn't hear the explosion sound mentioned by some netizens as bird-scaring fireworks. If cars were 'scared' into alarm sounds, the noise should have been loud. Moreover, there had already been planes taking off and landing before I saw the unidentified object. Bird-scaring fireworks should be launched before planes take off or land. My location is parallel to the airport runway, and the direction of the photo is perpendicular to the runway, so it wasn't necessarily directly over the airport, just in that direction. This thing stayed in the air for a while. I observed it for about two minutes and found no movement or change, just a gradual fading until it disappeared."
However, netizen "kmymj" offered a different opinion: "I grew up and played around near the airport since childhood. At Guandu Square, you can hardly hear any sounds from the airport unless it's at night. Between 7-9 AM, if you go to the swimming pool upstream, you'll understand everything. You can also walk around opposite the airport, and all will become clear. If you want to take such photos, I suggest going in the evening, they would be much prettier. It's simply bird-scaring fireworks."
Airport Identification
Unidentified Object Not Bird-Scaring Fireworks
Are the photos taken by the netizen really bird-scaring fireworks? A staff member from the Field Service Department of Kunming Airport said that bird-scaring fireworks are round, approximately 5 cm in diameter, mainly used to drive away bird flocks near the airport to ensure flight safety. Their launch height is only 40-60 meters, and upon explosion, they produce loud noises and some smoke, which dissipates quickly. It's hard to see bird-scaring fireworks from outside the airport field, and the smoke wouldn't linger in the air for five minutes.
Based on this, the staff member ruled out the possibility that the unidentified flying object was bird-scaring fireworks.
