Selection and release of seedlings for soft-shelled turtle farming

After the breeding pool has been routinely disinfected and rinsed, new water is added in preparation for the release of juvenile soft-shelled turtles.

Soft-shelled Turtle Seedling Release

1: When counting soft-shelled turtles for release, use a disinfectant bath with approximately 400ppm concentration in a large plastic basin. After a 3-5 minute soak, transfer both the turtles and the medicated water into the breeding pool. Step one: 1-3 days before releasing, sprinkle shrimp and crab quick-healing agent at 3-4ppm across the entire pool and continue oxygenation for 1-2 days.

1. Within 2 hours after releasing the soft-shelled turtles, immediately sprinkle Green Fusu at 25-30ppm (soak in boiling water for 2 hours before sprinkling) across the entire pool.

2. Within 2-5 days after releasing the soft-shelled turtles, sprinkle Green Fusu at about 25ppm again (soak in boiling water for 2 hours before sprinkling).

3. Within 5-10 days after releasing, sprinkle Water Mold Clean and Special Force Extinguish each at 1ppm, 1-2 times (both medicines can be used simultaneously but should be sprinkled separately. When dissolving and diluting Water Mold Clean, stir while adding the medicine to prevent clumping).

Seedling Selection for Soft-shelled Turtle Farming

1. Disinfection of Seedlings

Before releasing, soft-shelled turtle seedlings must undergo surface disinfection. The method involves soaking the seedlings in a plastic basin with a 1.5%-2.0% saline solution for 7-8 minutes. The water level should cover the backs of the seedlings.

2. Juvenile soft-shelled turtles should be selected from healthy, injury-free, disease-free, and high-quality breeds, with uniform specifications. Each should weigh more than 3.5g and exhibit strong vitality and rapid reactions. Do not purchase soft-shelled turtle seedlings from overseas that have not been inspected by customs.

3. Reasonable Seedling Release

After releasing the soft-shelled turtles, timely feeding should commence using juvenile turtle feed. It's best to add 10%-15% live water fleas (red bugs) or egg yolk to the first feeding bait. The method involves direct feeding in the breeding pool to minimize damage to the turtles, allowing them to start eating, adapt, and grow early in the pool. Proper stocking density is also crucial. Generally, the stocking density for juvenile turtles weighing 3.5g-15g is 50-80 per square meter; from December to New Year’s Day, the suitable stocking density for young turtles weighing 15g-50g is 25-40 per square meter; from New Year’s Day to February of the following year, the stocking density for young turtles weighing 50g-150g is 15-30 per square meter; from February to June, the stocking density for turtles weighing over 150g is 10-12 per square meter.
