Chicken manure fermentation into worm feed

Chicken manure fermentation technology

The method of fermenting chicken manure, first remove the stones, feathers and other impurities in the chicken manure, then mix the dried chicken manure at a ratio of 40%, and cornmeal and wheat bran at a ratio of 60% to form a mixed material. For every 100 kilograms of mixed material, add 1 kilogram of probiotic active solution in the proportion of EM bacteria fermentation liquid. Add water and stir, the water content should be controlled around 35~45%. The standard for judging whether the water content is appropriate is very simple. Grab a handful of feed and squeeze it hard; if it's moist but no water drips from between your fingers, the water content is sufficient.

After stirring well, seal the fermentation container and place it at room temperature, fermenting for 3~5 days. Depending on the temperature, the fermentation time will vary, shorter in summer and longer in winter. During fermentation, the temperature inside the fermentation tank will rise as the EM bacteria work. Beneficial microorganisms continuously absorb nutrients and grow stronger while controlling and suppressing harmful microorganisms such as pathogens and coccidia eggs. During reproduction, the highest temperature can reach 70~72 degrees Celsius. Under such high temperatures, beneficial bacteria continue to reproduce, while pathogenic microorganisms lose their living space, thus naturally turning chicken manure into safe feed.

Chicken manure for worm farming

Although chicken manure contains abundant nutrition, it also contains many harmful substances. First is the foul smell. Besides the unpleasant odor that worms dislike eating, more importantly, this stench itself is formed by harmful substances, which can affect the health of worms. The stench of chicken manure can irritate the eyes. If used directly for worm farming, worms will feel uncomfortable, and over time, it will lead to escape.

The technology of chicken manure fermentation has a history of about twenty years in China, while in Japan and Germany, it has an even longer history of about fifty years or more. A relatively mature method is the use of EM bacteria fermentation technology.

Chicken manure, which is originally a troublesome problem for farms due to its dirtiness and odor, has been used as worm feed in Yueyang County, Hunan Province. Since the company specializes in special breeding, raising both wild chickens and worms, not only has the hygiene issue been resolved, but it has also increased the feed for worms and saved costs.

The intestines of adult chickens are about one and a half meters long, which is 5~6 times the length of their body. It may sound not too short, but compared with other livestock like pigs and cows, it is quite short. Pigs' intestines are 14 times their body length, and cows' intestines are 20 times their body length. Due to the short digestive tract of chickens, especially the short intestine that plays an absorption role, food stays in the digestive tract for a very short time. From being eaten by chickens to being excreted as chicken manure, it only takes 4 hours, during which only 30% of the nutrients in the feed are absorbed before being excreted. Therefore, chicken manure still contains 70% of the nutrients, and the value of these nutrient components cannot be underestimated.
