Wuling Mountain National Nature Reserve is located at the boundary of Xinglong County, Chengde County, Luanping County in Hebei Province and Miyun County in Beijing, 130 kilometers away from Beijing and 168 kilometers away from Tianjin (Jinji Expressway). It has a total area of 14,400 hectares, and its main protected objects are "the temperate forest ecosystem and the northernmost distribution limit of macaques". In 1995, it joined the Chinese "Man and Biosphere" nature reserve network. In 2002, it was named as a "National Youth Science and Technology Education Base" by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, and the Chinese Association for Science and Technology. In 2004, it was named as a "National Forestry Popular Science Base" by the Chinese Society of Forestry.
