Simply put, cross-stitch consists of two stitches in opposite directions forming an "X". Hence, in English, it's called "Cross Stitch". In a simple embroidery piece, the stitches are likely all "X"s. But as the work becomes more complex, more stitches will be involved. However, cross-stitch is considered simple because there are few types of stitches commonly used: Full Stitch (Cross Stitch), Half Stitch (Half Cross Stitch), 1/4 or 3/4 Stitch, Back Stitch, and French Knots.
