Unicom launches mass telephone package; monthly rental fee for fixed-line phones will be abolished

The issue of the fixed telephone monthly rental fee, over which people have argued for years, will hopefully become history in various places in the future. Reporters learned from China Netcom yesterday that a fixed phone package service named "popular telephone" has been brewing and notifications have been sent to all provincial branch companies. According to the plan of this new package by Netcom Marketing Department, fixed telephone users can also choose different pricing packages like they do with mobile phones, while at the same time reducing or eliminating the fixed phone monthly rental fee. Currently, the Northeast region has begun to implement this service, but Beijing area does not yet have a timetable for the introduction of this service.
