The startup of Windows XP includes many features that can affect speed. Although Microsoft claims to have optimized the system, there are still plenty of customizable options for us. Here's how I usually handle it:
1. Modify the "Run" key in the registry and disable some less frequently used items, such as Windows Messenger. Enable the Registry Editor by following these steps: Start → Run → Type "Regedit" → Locate the following key: "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunMSMSGS" / BACKGROUND. Right-click on this entry and select Delete. This will make your system much quieter. You can also remove other unnecessary entries like "cfmon" while you're at it.
