A critical vulnerability that could allow a malicious-code attack has been found in the Chinese language version of Windows 2000 operating system, according to security researchers on Monday. Symantec has confirmed the report and said that someone had posted proof-of-concept code to milw0rm.com. One of the verified vulnerabilities was the Windows GDI (Graphics Device Interface) vulnerability affecting the Chinese language version of Windows 2000 SP4 systems. Microsoft released a patch for it last week. However, this vulnerability seems to only target the Chinese version of Windows 2000 operating system, other language versions of Windows 2000 do not have the same problem. Hackers can execute malicious code to hijack PC by taking advantage of this vulnerability, for example, making IE browser crash, or letting Windows File Manager crash.
