According to the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ), on September 18th, the GAQSIQ urgently required all levels of quality inspection departments to further strengthen their inspection and supervision over melamine and other toxic substances in dairy products and related foods.

The notice requires that quality inspection departments at all levels implement the signature release system for emergency management period station inspectors. Inspectors should be stationed in all dairy product manufacturing enterprises. The inspectors must strictly supervise the enterprise's inspection of incoming raw materials, strictly supervise the enterprise's production process and quality control, and strictly supervise the enterprise's batch inspection of products to ensure strict control over product releases. All dairy products must undergo batch inspections for melamine and other toxic substances. Every batch of dairy products that passes inspection must be signed by the inspector before it can be released for sale. If toxic substances are detected in dairy products that have been signed off by an inspector for release, the inspector’s responsibility will be seriously pursued.
