Microsoft has recently launched a Video Message service, which should more accurately be referred to as video messaging. This service changes the traditional ways people communicate on the internet — through email or voice mail, for example. With this new service, people can record a video message for their friends or family when they are not available. Currently, this service is only available in English.

To use it, go to videomessages.live.com and log in with your Windows Live account. After installing the plug-in and Silverlight, you can start using the service. You don't need to download these separately; the website will automatically prompt you and provide the necessary downloads.

In the bottom-right corner, there is a large "+" button. Clicking it allows you to create a new video. Currently, the service only supports recording videos using a PC webcam and sending them. If you don't have a webcam, Microsoft has introduced an impressive one called the LifeCam VX-5500, which was launched alongside the video messaging service. It's almost specifically designed for the video messaging service. These two products are part of Microsoft's new offerings under the Microsoft LifeCams brand.

Receiving video messages is even simpler. When you send a video message to a friend, they will receive an email notification that allows them to view your video just like they would check a regular email.

Windows Vista users can access this service directly from their desktop. All you need to do is install the tool or add it to the sidebar on your Vista desktop. You can set up accounts for six friends. Once they send you a video message, you'll receive a notification directly on your desktop.

This new service offers a convenient way for people to stay connected through video communication, enhancing the overall online interaction experience.
