Captain Witwicky (the ancestor of the Witwicky family) fell into the abyss with a huge iceberg during a disaster, landing on a robot hand buried under the ice. When the captain woke up, he found that the robot's eyes were staring at him. And this robot was none other than Megatron, who had left Cybertron long ago to go to Earth in search of the Allspark...

Megatron burned the map revealing the whereabouts of the Allspark onto the captain's glasses. The glasses, as the captain's legacy, were passed down from generation to generation and eventually ended up in the hands of Sam (played by Shia LaBeouf)...
