An article in Business Week on August 20th, Beijing time, pointed out that Microsoft is striving to catch up with Google, and any rival who ignores Microsoft will inevitably pay a heavy price. Satya Nadella, Senior Vice President of Microsoft's Search, Portal, and Advertising Platform Group, clearly expressed Microsoft's determination to surpass Google at the Search Engine Strategies conference held today in San Jose. He said that he found users no longer just typing keywords into Google's search bar, but using search engines to get things done.
Coincidentally, getting things done is actually Microsoft's main business. In fact, search users have already started doing this. Nadella indicated that about half of the search traffic on Microsoft's Live Search site belongs to search sessions lasting more than 30 minutes.
At the same time, Microsoft is also trying to add some interesting new content to its searches, such as paying users through the Live Search Cashback program, acquiring new features by purchasing Powerset and Farecast, and signing search distribution agreements with HP and Facebook.
