The trademark application proposed by Microsoft on July 30 stated that both trademarks are related to web browsers. The Cleartracks trademark includes computer programs for deleting search history after visiting websites. The Inprivate trademark includes computer programs for turning off the history and file cache functions in the browser, as well as software that notifies users when others are tracking their use of the web browser, and controls the information about the browser usage known to others.

An example of the application of private browsing mode is that there will be no trace left when browsing websites containing obscene content. However, there are other examples of applications. According to Mozilla's discussion on private browsing features, users may need to use private browsing to search for medical conditions or plan a surprising vacation or design a birthday party for their loved ones.
