Jeju Island holds significant value and importance in the preservation of biodiversity. Half of Korea's native plant species, as well as over 200 endemic Korean varieties, are found on Jeju Island. Additionally, half of Korea’s endangered species and wild protected species also inhabit the island. At the summit of Hallasan, Jeju’s highest peak, there are Arctic plants that migrated southward during the Ice Age. In the lower regions and across the island, many endemic species and rare species facing extinction can also be found. In particular, Hallasan serves as a treasure trove of ecological diversity, with a total of 1,565 plant species and 1,179 animal species thriving within its ecosystem.
