The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) made a decision not to broadcast the Olympic opening ceremony live, but air it 12 hours later. This news made many Chinese Americans feel restless and anxious. As a result, Chinese Wu Xiaoying wrote a letter to President Bush asking him to help solve the problem of live broadcasting of the Beijing Olympics.

On August 8th, a report stated: "Mr. President, when you are in China ready to enjoy the grand spectacle of the Olympic opening ceremony, do you know that every American does not have the luck to watch the live broadcast of the opening ceremony. NBC has decided not to broadcast the Olympic opening ceremony live, but to air it 12 hours later. Tens of thousands of Americans will lose the opportunity to share the Olympics with the world, which is wrong and unacceptable. There are too many commercial factors and restrictions that go against the purpose of the Olympics and the Olympic spirit. We hope, Mr. President, that you can stop this mistake and help tens of thousands of Americans obtain this right."
