How to Turn Off Unnecessary Services in Windows XP

Click "Start" → "Settings" → "Control Panel". Double-click on "Administrative Tools" → "Services", and after opening it, you will see a list of services. Some services are already running, while others are not. Right-click on the service you want to configure, then click "Properties". On the "General" tab, select "Automatic", "Manual", or "Disabled". "Automatic" means that every time the system starts, Windows XP will automatically start the service; "Manual" means that Windows XP will not automatically start the service, but you can start it manually when you need it; and "Disabled" means that the service is not allowed to start. In practical configuration, selecting "Manual" or "Disabled" can both achieve the purpose of turning off the service. It is recommended to use the manual option, so you can always start some temporarily needed services whenever required.
