The number of Internet users and the number of country domains both ranked first in the world, showing the scale of a major Internet country. On July 24, 2008, China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) released the "22nd Statistical Report on the Development of China's Internet" in Beijing (hereinafter referred to as the "Report"). The report showed that by the end of June 2008, the number of Internet users in China reached 253 million, surpassing the United States significantly for the first time and jumping to the top place in the world. Nevertheless, the Internet penetration rate was only 19.1%, still lower than the global average (21.1%).
At the same time, the number of broadband Internet users reached 214 million, also ranking first in the world. CNNIC also announced at the press conference that by July 22, the number of CN domain name registrations reached over 12.188 million, surpassing Germany's .de domain comprehensively, becoming the largest national top-level domain in the world. These three major breakthroughs have attracted worldwide attention, showing the initial scale of a major Internet country.
