The Ming Dynasty Crown Prince Zhu Xiaotian (played by William Li) has a preference for woodworking and dreams of becoming a top-notch carpenter like Lu Ban. In order to achieve this wish, he secretly leaves the palace to search for Lu Ban's lost woodcraft masterpiece, "The Lu Ban Book." It is said that whoever possesses this book will suffer misfortune - at best, they'll lose virtue or wits, and at worst, limbs or even their life; either they themselves will suffer misfortune, or their loved ones will be affected. Therefore, this book is also called "The Missing One."
During his journey to find the book, Zhu Xiaotian meets Tang Xiaodie (played by Huang Yi), a civilian woman, and follows her to find her master - the "Lu family" inheritor Jiangnange, who has been confined by the innkeeper (played by Fang Xiting) and the barman (played by Li Yu). Before his death, Jiangnange reveals a secret to the two.
At the same time, the imperial spy Hong Gaitian (played by Liu Hua) is ordered to investigate the loss of the royal tomb map. Under the misguided leadership of the governor, he mistakenly identifies Zhu Xiaotian and Tang Xiaodie as tomb raiders and blindly pursues them for capture.
Following the clues from the master, Zhu Xiaotian and Tang Xiaodie discover that the real tomb raiders are the barman and the innkeeper hidden in Longmen Town, so they head there too. Along the way, the two support each other, nurturing deep feelings for one another. However, Zhu Xiaotian is accidentally hit by a embroidered ball thrown by Nangong Ao's (played by Li Changyuan) daughter Nangong Yan (played by Deng Jiajia) in Longmen Town. At this moment, Hong Gaitian appears. A story of romance and intrigue unfolds in the passionate exotic land. But no one expected that the gentle and virtuous Tang Xiaodie had another purpose hidden in her heart.
